LETTER TO THE EDITOR: A consequential cultural moment is upon US!

Republican talking-points ahead of the midterms is that Dems are evil, unruly mobs, and GOP won’t give in to mob-rule; funny — most are on mob payrolls.  America is tired of a corrupt huckster trying to assert his ‘kingship’ on US!  Dems are clamoring for restoring our full Democracy.  From our country’s auspicious beginnings “We The People” have protested bitterly, resisted ferociously, fought a bloody Revolution to free ourselves from a self-serving aristocracy.  Our brilliant founders established a government, based on principles outlined in our Constitution and Bill of Rights, ensuring that Congress could overcome any such influences or attempts to subvert our liberties.  ‘Freedom of the press is not the norm in the world’, but it’s our norm!   We have the right to assembly and public protest.

Mobster kingpins are NOT kings!  Trump has always dealt with unsavory, corrupt persons; he’s borrowed and made millions off them.  He has no moral compass;  lying means nothing to him, treason — no big deal.  Trump and Kushner are in deep subterfuge with Russia, Israel, Saudi Arabia.  Kushner is directing foreign policy to enrich them all.  Crimes against humanity in Yemen, Syria, Myanmar, North Korea, Turkey — matters not.  Trump says, “Crown Prince totally denies it”; he’s said, “Kavanaugh firmly denied it, Kim Jong Un absolutely denies it, Putin strongly denied it, Roy Moore vigorously denied it!”   And of course, Trump denies it all!  He denied making fun of Dr. Ford at a televised rally, then he basically told journalist Lesley Stahl, “WE WON”, so it doesn’t matter!   Ex-Republican Steve Schmidt denounced that rally, “What Donald Trump showed tonight — he is as contemptible as he is vulgar, he is as cruel as he is dishonest.  No American citizen deserves that treatment from the head of state, from the commander-in-chief, from the president of the United States of America, a steward of an office once inhabited by men like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln”.

In this important cultural moment, Senator Flake missed his consequential shot to emulate McCain and ‘Be a Patriot’.   For all his speeches about putting guardrails around the presidency — “he choked like a dog”!    Schmidt lamented, “The agonistes of Jeff Flake, at long last has reached its merciful end; he was for an investigation before the White House-directed, sham-investigation was sufficient.  A dissembling judge swearing political vendettas could NOT serve, until it was time to vote Aye.   The Hamlet of Arizona, indeed”.
