City of Galesburg wanting to increase population to 40,000 in next decade; how?

For people to buy homes in Galesburg and pay property taxes and spend money in our local businesses they need jobs or income from other sources.  Our community leaders have been trying to attract economic development to this area for decades.   Governor Quinn is trying his best to slash our state pension programs, so even the local state positions won’t look that enticing. More young people looking at career choices will be asking themselves: “Why stay in a difficult job for 20 to 40 years (in Illinois) only to have what was promised you at the end robbed from you?”  Carl Sandburg and Knox College do their share to help attract residents, and will be adding new programs for study.   Can our banks offer lower mortgage rates for new home loans?   What about attracting more retirees, or keeping more retirees in our city?  With the baby boom generation reaching retirement age, Galesburg might consider building more Assisted Living accommodations or another,  more attractive “Retirement Village”, with single-story homes within walking distance of a few shops and restaurants .  Is the population of Henry Hill Correctional Center counted in our population total?
