Department of Homeland Security has issued a new terrorism-bulletin for heightened risks surrounding the 9/11 anniversary & warning the public about other volatile threats facing the country this month on softer targets than the Capitol building, where far-right extremist-groups are planning to rally, on Sept 18, to demand justice or to seek retribution against the ‘ill-treatment’ suffered by the Jan 6, “protesters”, they claim are “political prisoners”. They’re talking about the hundreds of people who were arrested & charged in connection with the January attack. If they began as protesters, they stopped being protesters the moment they began assaulting & trying to kill Capitol Police officers. The group, “Look Ahead America” has applied for a license to rally on 9/18; Matt Braynard, former Trump campaign official, is the group’s leader, and claims their aim is winning the next election, based on Trump’s insistence that the 2020 election was stolen. That’s the 1st Big Lie; the 2nd Big Lie is that the Jan 6, terrorists were not insurrectionists, but were merely “neophyte protesters who were egged on by Capitol Police”.

Congress passed an aid package to bolster security upgrades for the Capitol, including hardened windows & doors, new security cameras, funding for extra law-enforcement backup-teams, and providing bulletproof vests for police & for Congresspersons. Capitol police are discussing reinstalling the fence they’d erected around the perimeter after 1/6; Republicans are against the idea of fortifying the Capitol, claiming it’s not the most efficient way to protect the grounds. The Metropolitan Police Department will be fully-activated. One former intelligence official said, “It’s a week from hell for DHS, for the ATF, for the FBI, for DOD, and for the intel-community; it’s a scary week”. Rep, Jamie Raskin, D-MD, said, “more work needs to be done to address the root cause of political violence”. Rep, Dan Kildee, D-MI, who was trapped in the House-chamber on 1/6, said, “It’s scary, and unfortunately, there are not enough people in legitimate roles of authority on the Republican side to say that it’s all nonsense”. In fact, we have Republicans like Kevin McCarthy & others who are running scared & threatening telecommunication providers with dissolution of their businesses, if they comply with legal, Congressional requests for phone & online communications of those suspected of conspiracy to collude in an insurrection against our government. Furthermore, Republicans are calling for Liz Cheney & Adam Kinzinger to be ousted from the Republican House of “Reps”. Does that stand for House of Representatives or House of Reptilian Overlords?

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow show 8/27/21, reported a huge problem, building for months: Americans taking livestock drugs to prevent or treat Covid19. This phenomenon has been occurring mainly in southern states; people taking horse de-wormer & sheep dip are suffering many negative side-effects, among which can be kidney/liver damage, seizures & coma. A scheme begun by “America’s Frontline Doctors”, in July 2020, under Trump regime, set-up an online ‘telemedicine service & online pharmacy’, where for $90 you can supposedly speak with a doctor who will prescribe for you either hydroxychloroquine, or ivermectin, a livestock drug, which has no curative effect for Covid19, and can cost from $70 – $700. Bogus Frontline Doctors’ lawyers have intervened for hospitalized clients to receive ivermectin! (Founder of ‘Frontline Doctors’, Simone Gold, was charged in 1/6/21 Insurrection.) Fox hosts: Ingraham, Carlson & Hannity have been pushing these drugs, as has Joe Rogan, podcaster. Charlatans have long been with us, and Facebook anti-vax groups have been touting ivermectin as a curative. Poison Control centers, CDC, FDA have issued dire warnings: “DON’T TAKE LIVESTOCK MEDS!” The despicable GOP deadly-platform has become anti-vaccines, anti-Science, anti-education — against teaching Civics, Ethics, History & Ethnic Studies.

“U.S. peace envoy’s years of peace negotiations go up in flames in Afghanistan; what went wrong?” NBC News story 8/13/21, by Dan De Luce, detailed how President Trump & his Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo fully endorsed the deal brokered by envoy Zalmay Khalilzad between the U.S. & the Taliban leaders, mainly without any Afghan govt officials present. Afghan president, “Ashraf Ghani’s, national security advisor, accused Khalilzad in 2019 of selling out the Afghan govt in the talks, lending the Taliban a veneer of credibility”. (Remember in 2019, when Trump & Erdogan released thousands of ISIS jihadists to go reconstitute elsewhere, and Trump abandoned the Kurds to Erdogan?) Khalilzad conferred with diplomats from China, Russia & other world powers in Doha, Qater in 2020, as the Taliban unleashed a military onslaught to retake Afghanistan by force. Taliban terrorists were awarded a seat at the table, not negotiating in good faith, they pushed their demands for the U.S. to leave Afghanistan. The peace talks were going nowhere, and Trump, who broadcast his desires for a U.S. unilateral withdrawal undermined the envoy’s peace-efforts, by extracting troops ahead of schedule, conceding to the insurgent’s demands, and leaving only 2500 troops until the determined final troop withdrawal, May 2021 deadline. Experts say that the U.S. lost any leverage with the Taliban once it made clear its eagerness to remove American troops. This is the situation that President Biden inherited this year.

Afghan president, Ashraf Ghani fled the presidential palace 8/15/21, “to avoid bloodshed” in Afghanistan aka Islamic Emirate, only days after vowing he’d be among the leaders ready to defend their country; it is rumored that Ghani has flown to Uzbekistan. So after we’ve waged war in Afghanistan for 20 years, spent blood & treasure, over $2T, the Taliban warlords have surged across that country, opening prison doors, swelling their ranks, bent on exacting their strict Islamic Sharia law, murdering artists, musicians, translators, and all those who were against them, while gathering lists of females to be given to their Taliban brethren. Allah has rewarded them with victory over the infidels. Some say, “if we’d just have stayed a little longer & killed more people, we could have made a bigger difference”. The July 2021 job report boasted over 900,000 people joined the active workforce! That was a hopeful sign, since millions of jobs were lost over the last dozen months due to pandemic. However, before we could celebrate that gain, we’re hit with the devastating news that the deadly Covid-19 Delta-variant is surging through our nation, mainly infecting children and the unvaccinated, but even those of us who have been vaccinated can still contract this virus, and can still transmit it even if we don’t show signs of illness. As many took to the skies to visit vacation resorts, many hotspots flared-up around the nation; destinations, such as Lake of Ozarks, MO, where thousands flocked to concerts, camps, hotels & restaurants. Chicago’s Lollapalooza, South Dakota’s Sturgis motorcycle rally, Florida’s Disney world, and multitudes of other attractions draw huge, jam-packed crowds, even as many hospitals are RIGHT NOW having to turn away afflicted people, as they have no available beds. The U.S. tops the list for most infections, even more than India. Even as the vaccine saves lives, is accessible & free, it seems most folks who want the protection have availed themselves. Some employers are requiring their employees to be vaccinated; federal workers were mandated to receive the vaccine. Just as we dropped our masks, the virulent Delta-mutated-virus spiked- up, and so we are back to donning masks & many are returning to social distancing. As we’ve struggled to recover physically, mentally, emotionally, economically from the pandemic, the Delta-variant threatens to undo our recovery. “Ask what you can do for your country?” Do your part to help your fellow countryfolk, wear a mask, be kind, live smart; Live, & Let Live!

The U.S. Senate 8/10/21, passed the bipartisan $1.2 T, “Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act”, a “blue-collar blueprint to rebuild America”, which President Biden touts: “90 percent of the jobs not requiring a college degree”. Plumbers & pipefitters replacing lead pipes, so we can all drink clean water, American workers restoring our levees, rebuilding roads & bridges, re-envisioning public transit, upgrading railroad tracks & building new lines, building charging stations for electric vehicles, greatly reducing pollution, providing high-speed internet for all Americans. The Dems will now work on compromising on a larger Reconciliation bill, a 3rd Reconstruction, which intends to address & combat climate change. We have seen the calamitous-storms, flash-floods, raging-wildfires, sweltering-heat, oceans heating up, killing more food sources. The U.N. Climate report decried humanity’s role in climate change & alerted a “CODE RED” for humanity.

Isabel Wilkerson, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist for “The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America’s Great Migration”, has a new bestseller: “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontent”; a central theme being that “caste, while a global occurrence, achieves its most violent manifestation in the treatment of American Blacks, set at the lowest level in society through historical & contemporary oppression, marginalization & violence — all legally maintained through systems of law & order.” NYT Chicago bureau chief said, “the book does not disappoint; a profound achievement of scholarship & research that stands also as a triumph of both visceral story-telling & cogent analysis”. Wilkerson explains, “caste is the granting or withholding of respect, status, honor, attention, privileges, resources, benefit of the doubt, and human kindness to someone on the basis of their perceived rank or standing in the hierarchy. Racism & casteism do overlap, and that what some people call racism could be seen as merely one manifestation of the degree to which we have internalized the larger American caste system.”

William Howard Taft, Republican, defeated three-time Democratic-nominee, William Jennings Bryan in 1908, carrying most states outside of the ‘Solid-South’. Democratic, New Jersey Governor, Woodrow Wilson defeated Taft in 1912, at a time when fundamental changes were occurring in politics. “Wilson embraced a ‘New Freedom’ version of progressivism. Yet after 1912, the Republican party began to shift ideologically to the Right. The Republican party’s ‘small-government platform’ cemented in 1930, with its heated opposition to FDR’s New Deal.” Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Democrat, former NY Governor, served four-terms as president, inherited the Great Depression, and implemented his ‘New Deal Coalition’, defining modern liberalism, in response to our history’s worst economic crises. FDR regulated financial institutions, founded welfare & pension programs, and implemented infrastructure development. His 3rd & 4th terms were dominated by WWII, which ended shortly after he died in office, in 1945.

Harry S. Truman, 33rd president, succeeding to office upon the death of FDR in 1945, was elected in 1948, even though, after introducing a pro-civil-rights platform at the party’s 1948 Convention, a faction walked out. These defectors, known as Dixiecrats, held a separate convention in Birmingham, AL, where they nominated anti-civil-rights, S.C. Governor Strom Thurmond. “Thurmond lost the election, though he won over a million popular votes. Truman implemented the Marshall Plan to rebuild the economy of Western Europe after WWII, and he established the Truman Doctrine & NATO, to contain Communist Expansion. Abraham Lincoln was the first president elected from the newly-formed, fiercely-liberal, abolitionist Republican party in 1860. Although candidate-Lincoln downplayed abolition of slavery while campaigning, coming out against the spread of slavery to ‘free states’, he was at heart, an ardent abolitionist. “The GOP, pro-economic reform-party, was founded in 1854 by opponents of the KS-NE Act, which allowed the expansion of chattel-slavery into the Western-territories”. Lincoln, reelected in 1864, banned slavery in America, and was assassinated in 1865. “During the 1860s & 70s, Republicans dominated the Northern states, expanded federal power, helped fund the transcontinental- railroad, the state university system, settlement of the West by homesteaders, established a national currency, and a protective tariff. Those events had turned out very favorably to big business based in the Northeast, such as banks, railroads & manufacturers, while small-time farmers, who had gone West, felt they had received very little.” Democrats, who dominated the South, opposed those measures, as well as social justice laws & protections passed after the Civil War.

In 1896, William Jennings Bryan, Democrat & former Representative of Kansas, ran a presidential-campaign, seeking to win the West, by proposing an expansion of federal powers to ensure social justice to indebted farmers, and by opposing the gold-standard. Bryan lost the election to William McKinley, Republican, former U.S. Representative & Governor of Ohio, who ran on a platform of promoting American prosperity. “McKinley entered into a brief & decisive war with Spain over the Cuban-independence issue in 1898; the U.S. gained possession of Puerto Rico, Philippines & Guam.”

McKinley’s VP, Garret Hobart, died in 1899; McKinley agreed to accept Theodore Roosevelt as his running-mate in 1900, and was reelected. McKinley was assassinated in 1901, and Teddy Roosevelt unexpectedly became our 26th president, winning a second term in 1904. “He was confronted with a bitter struggle between management & labor, and became known as the great ‘trust-buster’; he advocated a ‘Square-Deal’ between capital & labor. A conservationist, he also set aside some 200-million acres for national forests, reserves & wildlife refuges; he spearheaded the beginning construction of the Panama Canal, and won a Nobel Peace Prize for his negotiations to end the Russo-Japanese War. He kept his promise not to run a 3rd term, but in 1912 tried to return to politics, heading a new Progressive Bull-Moose Party”, losing that presidential race; being one among four impressive candidates. ‘T-R’, a social-reformer, was one of our most important, significant presidents.
