April brings in a hopeful energy with a new moon in Aries on April 5th …. that will square Saturn, as it edges closer to Pluto, with the south node in between. This will be looked back on “as a time of austerity, difficulty, hardship and darkness”; a time of reaping a difficult harvest, and will require a good deal of patience, as progress won’t come easily. We can “use the energies of the new moon” to make some progress in our personal lives and relationships, but Saturn, the taskmaster, forces us to put in the effort to effect such changes, even if we can only employ small actions towards our goals. Every journey begins with that first step. “Aries has no time for procrastination, and Capricorn has no time for idle fantasies”, so with them …. use this new moon motivation to help you go forward. If we seek to change our world, we must choose a cause that matters to us and take action, even if it’s only volunteering a “few hours a week, putting up a page on your website, reducing your use of plastics, or pledging your support to a project or initiative”. These actions can lead to big results!
“A strong dose of Aries-Mars and Capricorn-Saturn energy” this month can bring a rough-edged ruthlessness, so we might try to be mindful of being constructive and compassionate. Although those energies will be dominate, if we get quiet, we “might be able to tune into the soft and intuitive vibes of the Mercury-Venus-Neptune conjunction in Pisces …. a lovely combination of energies that are aligned to higher truths, inner guidance and inspiration”. We can try to escape the madness and tune into our higher wisdom, invoking our soul’s divine messages. “Art, poetry, music, photography, meditation, and prayer are all ways we can access this mystical realm — where whatever we need to know will be revealed to us and our efforts will be minimal.” Employing these measures might be the best way to take action under this Aries moon, “and if we ask the universe for help, it will reply and provide us with whatever we need to fulfill our soul’s mission”.
April 19th brings a full moon in Libra, activating air and a grand cardinal square, with the Sun in late Aries/fire, the north node in the sign of Cancer/water, and the south node in Capricorn/earth. Squares represent issues we need to work through. These four elements and other planetary aspects bring in transformational energies regarding the Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine, and opportunities for beginning real communications, that may lead to understandings and forgiveness regarding the myths, lies, confusions, and misunderstandings between the sexes throughout our entire history and going forward. There is a hopeful undercurrent for acknowledgement within the mass consciousness of confirmations of truth regarding our perpetual penchant for wars, and for healing humanity.
Later in April, “the Sun aligns with Uranus in Taurus, a clear indication not to keep doing the same old thing if you want to get different results”. So we might receive messages to “Be innovative, Be revolutionary, Let go of your old ways, Be willing to experiment”, if the old ways aren’t working. “The Sun’s conjunction to Uranus speaks of a need to cast off shackles and become true to ourselves, to compromise our integrity no more!” What areas of your life need some sprucing and spicing up, some rebellion energy? “Do what makes you come alive, and follow what inspires and delights you …. to live a life in which your core values become the essence of your days and the light of your soul shines.” To our own selves be true!

What I think about the growth of gambling locally.
Reviewing one R-M article on this subject, I found it astounding that “people in Galesburg spent $26 million gambling in 2018, and lost just over $7 million of that; $26 million is about a quarter of what the entire population of the city spends on food each year”. The article also stated that “the state takes 30 percent of gaming revenue and gives municipalities 5 percent”. Our city and state surely needs revenue, which we should be ‘flush with’ after marijuana is legalized in Illinois. I need my state pension! Not being much of a gambler, I occasionally buy a lotto ticket; I don’t frequent casinos; I’d never contemplate a vacation in Las Vegas. Many folks do travel to the Quad Cities, Peoria and elsewhere to gamble, so I guess it’s convenient and beneficial for ‘the Burg’ to offer gambling opportunities. I do question the social impact of this behavior for many families, and marvel that people have that much disposable income.
